Hi muccari and all:
I got my DDS80 yesterday. I read on these forums before I even decided to make the purchase, so I was aware of some issues reported by users here.
I was reluctant to update my unit to firmware version 1.13, but I gave it a shot. After the firmware update, I started having a problem where my unit started flashing all the lights and going into the DEMO screen mode after about 40 seconds of playing any track. Before the firmware update to 1.13, the unit was working well. So in my opinion the update to 1.13 was the cause of the problem.
I did some searching on the Internet and found one site with older firmware (1.11 and 1.12) available for download. I went and downloaded them both and used the version 1.12 to update my DDS80. The result was that my unit is working good again! I am so relieved! I am glad I found that site with the 2 older version of firmware. By the way, the site is here:
http://www.interstateaudio.nl/product/299/dds+80+It is not a site in the United States, which is where I live, and where I bought my DDS80 from. It disappointing to me that Numark didn't have these two older versions of firmware available for download at
http://www.Numark.com/DDS80. I hope Numark doesn't cause that site to remove these two older firmware versions because they are a great solution to fix a problem that occurs after updating to firmware version 1.13.
Muccari, I see you should have a new unit by now. I don't recommend updating the firmware to version 1.13, but version 1.12 is working good for me, so you or anyone else finding this forum may want to try doing this:
-Get the other two firmware versions from the site I posted a link to above, and try to update using version 1.12 (since it is a more recent version than 1.11 you may have more fixes and features, as a result of updating with it rather than using 1.11).
-Make sure you unzip the firmware update and copy it to the root directory of the storage device you will use to update your DDS unit. The unzipped file should have the name, DDS80_v1.12_6843.upg, for example.
-Remember when you update the firmware, you are suppose to disconnect all storage devices from your DDS unit, except the storage device you have the firmware update on. And the unit should be off with the firmware update on a USB drive and the USB drive connected to the DDS unit, for example.
-Remember to power on the DDS by holding in the power button until you see the screen say that it's searching for the firmware. This is very important. Once you see that on the screen, you can let go of the power button, and the DDS should find the firmware on the USB stick and update the DDS unit.
This worked for me, and I hope it will work for others.
